To all my friends in the Sandhills, please never bring your car to Autowerks. I had the worst possible experience with them over this last week. They are either incompetent in their work, disingenuous in their efforts, or ignorant to the fact that customers actually matter. I have brought vehicles to Autowerks for nearly 10 years- Land Rover, Volvo, Audi basically because there was no one else nearby. Recently, I brought my Land Rover to them to simply have the battery replaced - I also asked them to complete their "full A- Service and inspection". After only using the vehicle for a day and a half, our au pair, a very conscientious driver called and said something was wrong and she stopped the car in the middle of Southern Pines. When I arrived, I opened the hood to find the battery cover improperly seated and fuse box cover improperly seated. I could see right away that they had problems putting the battery in, because in doing so they completely separated the air intake from its three lower mounts to a point where it even separated the connection to engine air intake. One could see where they pressed down on it while trying to put the battery in and in doing so they inadvertently loosened the hose to the radiator, this coupled with the completely disconnected air intake that they never re-installed, that sits above the radiator hose caused the hose to completely disconnect allowing all of the coolant to leak out and air to enter the system. I arrived after the vehicle was parked for some two hours and re-attached the hose, re-installed the air intake, connected it back to engine air duct, and refilled some of the coolant with water. I then had the vehicle towed back to the shop and explained what happened. They responded that they don’t make mistakes and basically called me a liar and despite their 2 YEAR OR 24,000 MILE WARRANTY ON PARTS AND LABOR DUE TO FAULTY WORKMANSHIP OR FAILED COMPONENT they informed me that once it drives away from the dealership they are not responsible for anything. In effect, zero warranty, zero customer care and zero respect. Now note I am a mechanical engineer, I am pretty handy with vehicles. I didn’t change the battery because I had a hectic work schedule. I did ask them to get the vehicle back to the au pair as soon as possible - I guess that means screw reviewing the work just push it out the door. I have brought this vehicle in for every single service possible. I found it humorous that the owner not only he tried to get me to not only pay for the entire repair but then said we should do the timing chain as well - nice try at an up sell. He refused to have any real discussion about the proximate cause and instead simply smirked. I regret that Autowerks has decided to stop standing by their work, caring for customers, or even providing any semblance of professionalism. They obviously do not care about their reputation or quality of work and I will no longer stand by them. I can just imagine how many of their other customers they have and continue to fleece with their claims expertise and "one of the best warranties in the industry". Do yourself and your neighbors a favor and find a auto mechanic you can trust.
