Once oil consumption has increased the condition is not reversible.  Preventative measures are to increase the frequency of oil changes to twice per year even for over the road driving, and bi-annual chemical decarbonizing.

VW Turbo Diesel Injection are having issues with failed high pressure fuel pump that then contaminates the entire fuel delivery and injection system with major expense. There monitoring and services that may head off the major expense,
