CHECK ALL THE FLUIDS
We have noticed that with the advent of synthetic oil and extended oil change intervals, car owners are forgetting other routine maintenance items that are very important to the life of a car. In addition to the car's oil, it's a good idea to keep all the fluids fresh. This includes antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, automatic transmission fluid and differential fluid. The manufacturers have recommended intervals for replacing these fluids but these recommendations are often overlooked. We have found that many of the so-called "no service" transmissions or those that are not supposed to be serviced until 100,000 miles actually do need to be checked. Often these transmissions need to be serviced at about 60,000 miles and sometimes as early as 30,000 miles. Make sure that you know when your car's fluids have been changed and when they are due for replacement. This can seriously affect the efficiency and longevity of your vehicle.
CABIN FILTERS
Cabin Air Filters (Pollen Filters/Microfilters): Most late model vehicles come standard with a cabin air filter. The purpose of these filters is to filter allergens, irritants and airborne particles. These can include bacteria, pollution, dust, odors and spores. A functioning filter increases passenger comfort. The activated charcoal versions are effective in reducing air borne odors. Replacement is usually at 15,000 miles. Much beyond could reduce the air handling capacity of the climate control system. We replace the regular filters during the major services and the charcoal at 45,000 miles.
